Description and Distribution
A very tall evergreen tree reaching up to 400 feet (90 m). The mature leaves are blue-green and roughly sword-shaped. The tree is a native of Australia and Tasmania and is also cultivated in Spain, Portugal, Brazil, California, Russia and China, from where much of the world's supply of eucalyptus oil originates.

Steam distillation of the leaves and young twigs.
Nature of the Oil
A colourless liquid. The aroma is piercing and camphoraceous with a woody-sweet undertone. Its odour effect is head-clearing and cooling.
Description: The Blue Mallee, or Blue-Leaved Mallee is a deeply rooted perennial tree which has a natural distribution in areas such as the mallee regions of Victoria and NSW. The bark is smooth, and fibrous near the trunk base. Leaves are disjunct and linear to narrow-lanceolate. Juvenile leaves are glaucous, and adult leaves grey-green.
Color: Colorless to yellow or brown.
Common Uses: Eucalyptus essential oil is fantastic on skin ailments (burns, blisters, wounds, insect bites, lice, and skin infections), and to combat the effects of colds and coughs, colds. It also can be used in the perfume and flavoring industries.
Aromatic Scent: A fresh, camphorous aroma with a faint peppermint undertone.
History: The Aboriginals used its leaves to clear air and ward off fever. In World War I, the oil was used for health.
