In the 1960s, Mr. Lelièvre, a much-appreciated Parisian hair-dresser on avenue Emile Zola, invented the very first curling tongs. Mr. Felblum, his associate, had the excellent idea of marketing and distributing this novelty product through a professional and general public network. The impulse he gave BaByliss propulsed the company forward in the hair care and beauty fields, thereby acquiring an unrivalled brand image.

The BaByliss brand was born!

From its fief in Paris' XVth arrondissement, BaByliss curled and recurled the whole of France for ten years, so becoming the reference in hair-dressing.

1969 : Heating curlers

In the 70s: BaByliss further developed its range to confront the increasingly stiffer competition and launched into the hair dryer market and then into blower-brushes. At the same time, BaByliss attacked Europe and set up a production unit in Belgium, as well as an ultra-modern R&D laboratory.

1973 : Blower brushes
1977 : Curling irons
1978 : Heating brushes
1979 : Straighteners

In the 80s: BaByliss persisted in its efforts for constant originality, and diversified once more into beautycare by developing a range of depilation products. Eight years of research were required for the launch of the celebrated Epilady. 1983 was a decisive year for BaByliss when the brand hit the British market.

1980 : Foot Spa
1987 : Epilady

In the 90s : CONAIR the US group and world leader in electro-beauty bought out BaByliss in 1995. Distributed in over 60 countries, BaByliss profits from an international reputation for all of its product lines (capillary machines, trimmers, depilation and body benefits).

1992 : "Volume Air" Hair dryer
1993 : Trimmers
1995 : Wax depilation
1997 : Antistatic hair dryer
1998 : Hair dryer with recoiling lead
1999 : Body benefits and Brushes

In 2000, BaByliss celebrated its 40th birthday and continues its policy of innovation with ongoing improvement to existing products but also by developing new body-care ranges better adapted to life in the 21st century. BaByliss remains true to its philosophy:

"Stay in pole position and leave your mark over the years".

2000 : Weighing machines

2001 : Innovation is an essential component in BaByliss strategy. In markets flooded with commonplace products, you can see the difference by its technological and creative advance. These innovations are primarily concentrated on well-being and beauty. 2002 : BaByliss moves. The new, ultra modern, head office has a multimedia training room for professional hair-dressers.

2003 : BaByliss launches CUISINART in Europe with the support of Paul Bocuse.Initiated in 1970 by an american engineer, enamoured with France, Cuisinart was bought up by the Group Conair in 1989.

Innovation and quality control are the lynchpins of BaByliss.

4 R&D offices devote their time to fine-tuning new products.
