Tigers are the largest and most powerful of all cats, and Siberian tigers are the largest tigers. An adult male Siberian tiger can grow to 12 feet in length (from head to tip of tail) and weigh 650 pounds!
The Siberian tiger has adapted to a northern environment by losing the distinctive red stripes seen in its southern relatives. Each tiger has a unique stripe pattern, which can be used to identify individuals.
The Siberian tiger's adaptation to its northern habitat includes thicker fur and a layer of fat along its belly and flanks to allow it to withstand temperatures as low as -45 or -50 degrees farenheit.
Wildlife artist, Alan Hunt, contrasts the chill of the northern air with the heat and the fierce intensity of a pair of Siberian tigers.
