Chuck Hoberman has been inventing magically transforming structures since he was a child. With an education in both art and engineering, Chuck's "unfolding structures" appear in toy stores, museums and public spaces around the world.
Currently, two companies operate under the Hoberman name brand: Hoberman Designs, which creates and produces the award-winning transforming toys and Hoberman Associates, which designs and installs large-scale sculptures and structures. Regardless of size, all Hoberman products are based on the patented inventions of Chuck Hoberman.
Hoberman Designs was founded in 1995 when Chuck and his wife and business partner, Carolyn, turned one of his well-known unfolding designs into a best-selling toy, the Hoberman Sphere. The Sphere is a huge success and has since become part of pop culture, often appearing in television shows, movies and commercials.
Over the past ten years, the Hoberman product line has grown and evolved with an ongoing flow of new, innovative products utilizing new technology and unique designs. The goal is to inspire children to be inventive and creative in their own lives and of course to have fun!
Hoberman Associates, founded in 1990, provides design analysis and planning for innovative architectural projects, conceptual design and construction of large-scale exhibits for museums and corporate spaces, and product design incorporating Hoberman technology.
Most recently, Chuck designed the high-profile Hoberman Arch in Salt Lake City, Utah, as the centerpiece for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. Their noteworthy commissions include a retractable dome for the World's Fair in Hanover, Germany and the Expanding Sphere at the Liberty Science Center in New Jersey.
The products, the structures and the inventor have garnered much press through the years, including articles in Wired magazine, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Discover Magazine and The New Yorker. | | | Share Your Review!
