The Strange Case of Attractive Water:- A peculiar force called surface tension acts on water: each molecule of water is attracted to the molecule next to it.
>- Imagine holding a glass that is half full of water and quickly jerking it forward (as if to splash someone!) The glass will remain in your hand, but the water will continue to move through the air.
- Because all the water molecules try to stay attached to each other, the water will hold together in one big blob. Eventually, (unless the blob hits someone) air resistance and gravity will force the blob to break up and fall towards the ground.
On the Surface, Tension:- BUT, if you had just the right amount of water, and could make it move at just the right speed, the force of the water's surface tension trying to hold it together would be greater than the forces of air resistance and gravity.
- The shape that requires the least force to hold it together is a sphere. Or, as we call it, a Waterball!
Launch:- The patented technology of Waterball works in the same way. Instead of a glass, think of a tube sliding back and forth inside a housing. The tube is open at the top. Water from the Waterball reservoir fills the tube, and when you pull the launch sled back the tube (and water) flings forward. The tube stops at the end because of a rubber seal, but the water continues.
- Because the patented Waterball technology launches an exact amount of water at an exact speed, the water's surface tension is equal to or greater than the air resistance - resulting in a wonderfully round Waterball!
