What is Crokinole?
Oh, you mean aside from being the greatest game ever devised by the mind of man? Ok, well, briefly...
Crokinole is a skill & action table game played on a round or octagonal wooden board by two to four people playing individually or in teams. It is a member of the shuffleboard family of games. The object of the game is to get as many of your own (team's) playing pieces (wooden discs about the size of a checker) as close to (or into) a small recess at the center of the board as possible, while at the same time, knocking your opponent's discs off of the playing area, or as far from the center recess as possible. This is accomplished by "filliping" (flicking the disc with your finger) from a shooting line near the edge of the playing area. Eight posts act as obstacles surrounding the center recess.
Crokinole has no age or gender bias. Men and women compete on a level playing field. It is simple enough to be comprehended by children from about school age, yet challenging enough to keep adults interested for a lifetime, and cross-generational. In many households, the entire family plays together during the early evening, then after the youngsters have gone off to bed, the adults get serious about it.
Crokinole is skill-based; there is no luck involved. There are no dice, cards, spinners, etc. Crokinole is a social game, often played in leagues or clubs (sometimes called Crokinole Circles), and in tournaments that can last for several days and draw hundreds of people.
