For the last 20 years the Tomcat has been the outstanding fighter plane of the U.S. Navy and because of its unique features it will probably remain in service another 10 years.
Equipped with sophisticated gear and powerful air-to-air missiles, the F-14 has no rivals in the sky despite the appearance of F-16s or MIG-29s. The twin engines with enormous power and the plane's aerodynamics, plus the retractable wings make it superior to other aircraft.
During the Eighties the F-14s were engaged with MIG's and Sukhoy's and proved their superiority at various occasions.
