Description
This nuclear-powered aircraft carrier is the seventh ship of the Nimitz class.
The first carrier of this class, the CVN 68 "Nimitz", was launched in 1975.
All ships have identical hulls but the later units have many improvements, such as the tower, radar equipment and defense armament.
The Stennis will enter service in 1995 and is equipped with F-14 Tomcats, F18 Hornets A-6 Intruders and E-2 Hawkeye airplanes, as well as various helicopters.
The nuclear-powered engines provide the carrier with an almost unlimited range.
