 From The Publisher
Joan Lowery Nixon and Diane deGroat's first fast-paced whodunit for newly independent readers is now available in paperback. When Gus and Gertie arrive on Holiday Island, they find a haven of seagoing scallywags, riffraff, and ruffians. It isn't long before Gertie's precious deep-sea pearl is stolen—but who's to blame? The culprit is revealed by clues cleverly hidden in Gus's hastily taken snapshots. Can readers crack the case before it's too late?

Author Biography: Joan Lowery Nixon is the author of more than 100 books, including The Other Side of Dark and the Orphan Train Adventures series. She is also the four-time winner of the Mystery Writers of America's Edgar Allan Poe Best Juvenile Mystery Award. She lives in Houston, Texas.

Diane deGroat, illustrator of nearly 100 books for children, is also the author-illustrator of the Annie Pitts books and the popular stories about Gilbert the opossum. She lives in Amherst, Massachusetts.
