 In Brief
Mystery fans get some guidance in the place names they encounter as Tony Hillerman's fictional Navajo detectives unsnarl another puzzle. Author Linford, formerly a Navajo Nation archaeologist, also wrote Navajo places (2000); the current title began as an idea for a marketing ploy to move more copies of that reference work. But it became a project in its own right when Linford decided to combine the cultural-historical information in the previous book with descriptions of how the places (listed alphabetically) fit into Hillerman's stories. The scattered b&w photos are small and dim, which means readers will need to rely on their imaginations to supply the full sweep of the region's epic landscapes. Includes a brief foreword by Hillerman himself.
