Quotations

"I've always followed my father's advice: he told me, first to always keep my word and, second, to never insult anybody unintentionally. If I insult you, you can be goddamn sure I intend to. And, third, he told me not to go around looking for trouble."

  John Wayne

 In Brief
A LATER CLASSIC FROM AMERICA'S PREMIER FICTION WRITER First published in 1970, nine years after Hemingway's death, this is the story of an artist and adventurer -- a man much like Hemingway himself.

 From The Publisher
This major novel, published after the author's death, traces the complex life of Thomas Hudson. It is told in three parts, each a story unto itself.

"Bimini" is the story of a young Hudson entertaining his three sons at his island retreat -- and his loneliness when they leave. "Cuba" is Hudson's clandestine war efforts, the death of his son as a pilot and his chance encounter with his first wife, the love of his life. "At Sea" is an older Hudson commanding a pursuit of German U-boat survivors, the survivors die and Hudson is wounded.

"An exquisite finale to a brilliant career." (Publisher's Source)
