| | | | | From The Publisher "Cormac McCarthy's masterwork, Blood Meridian, chronicles the brutal world of the Texas-Mexico borderlands in the mid-nineteenth century. Its wounded hero, the teenage Kid, must confront the extraordinary violence of the Glanton gang, a murderous cadre on an official mission to scalp Indians. Loosely based on fact, the novel represents a genius vision of the historical West, one so fiercely realized that since its initial publication in 1985 the canon of American literature has welcomed Blood Meridian to its shelf."--BOOK JACKET.

This Book is Awesome
-- A reviewer, generally a cantankerous reader, December 4, 2001
Also Recommended: Gabriel's Story, by David Anthony Durham - It's similar material in some ways but with a multi-racial cast. It's really good actually, although I've no doubt that this first timer read some McCarthy before setting his own fingers tapping.
Here comes the judge!

| | | | The Reader's Catalog The American West as continuous massacre: a stunningly visualized novel whose prose represents an original blend of dime novel and Old Testament.
| | | | | The Word On The Street A classic American novel of regeneration through violence. McCarthy can only be compared with our greatest writer with Melville and Faulkner, and this is his masterpiece. Michael Herr
