Interwoven with Howard's history is the story of his young firm and the 700+ traders and partners (including his brother and best friend) who died when the World Trade Center collapsed on September 11. (The September 11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center was the greatest catastrophe to occur on U.S. soil since the Civil War. More than 3,000 people died, a far greater number than those lost at Pearl Harbor and in the Oklahoma City bombing.)
In many ways the changes that Howard and his firm now face are emblematic of what the country as a whole has undergone, and the questions this book asks are ones the whole country is thinking about: Will we rise above and defeat this terror?
