| | | | The Reader's Catalog Maurice Sendak won the 1970 Hans Christian Andersen award for his substantial and lasting contributions to children's literature. He has said that he has always had more trouble with the text of his children's books than the pictures, describing how his stories come to him "in bits and pieces of memories that don't seem related for a very long time, but something in me determines they will be closely related: they are going to work together come hell and high water."|Sendak pushes dream logic to its limit in a hauntingly beautiful book that confronts and transcends some basic anxieties of early childhood
