| | Description
Ipriflavone is a soy isoflavone derivative that has been shown in numerous double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical studies to be effective in the prevention and treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis at a dose of 600 mg/day. Ipriflavone is active in bone metabolism, contributing to an increase in bone density and strength. It has demonstrated an inhibitory effect on osteoclast recruitment and function (bone resorption) and a stimulatory effect on osteoblastic formation (bone formation). It's bone resorption effects have been confirmed in conditions of high bone turnover, such as Paget's disease of bone. The majority of positive research testing the effectiveness of Ipriflavone for bone diseases has combined calcium supplementation at a rate of 1 g/day. The addition of supplemental Vitamin D has also been shown synergistic benefits. Ipriflavone has shown no adverse effects at standard dosages and is devoid of any estrogenic activity.
