Nature of Plant: Largely of interest because of uses and the resemblance of the seed pods to elongated string beans; a legume; seedlings resemble an erect almost branchiess sweet clover; grows to 15 or 18 inches.

Seed: (Industrial) Ground seeds give maple flavor to confectionery, in making curry; (Medicinal) ointments, plasters, reputed equal in virtue to quinine for fevers, mucilaginous material from soaking in water for inflamed stomachs and intestines, poultices, decreases nauseating and griping effects of purgatives, plant and seed as fodder in veterinary medicine.
