The stylishness of brushed stainless steel is an ideal contemporary accent to the classic French press. Simply add coarsely ground coffee, pour boiling water over, and let sit for a few minutes. Pressing the plunger with its fine mesh screen presses the grounds to the bottom, leaving rich coffee ready to serve. Compared to coffee brewed through a paper filter, which traps more of the beans' oils, pressed coffee maintains a maximum of robust flavor. Pieces are dishwasher-safe, but hand washing is recommended. If you sometimes make coffee for a crowd, consider getting an 8- or 12-cup press as well. <I>--Cynthia Nims</I>
