Description
Baptisia (commonly called Wild Indigo) is one of the most powerful anti-inflammatories with strong antibiotic and probably antiviral properties. It is generally used for the most severe and inflamed discrasias (infections) blood poisoning, putrid ulcerations, severe disintegration of tissues caused by capillary congestion, malignant ulcers, mouth sores, sore nipples, swollen glands sore throat, thphthena scarlatina, erysipelas, tonsilitis, typhoid dysentery, typhoid pneumonia, cerebrospinal meningitis, fetid leucorrhea, and ulceration of the cervix. Foul discharges with a dark, purplish discoloration definitely call for baptisia.
It combines well with other anti-inflammatory herbs including echinacea and goldenseal. An ointment can be made with equal parts bloodroot and baptisia to be applied several times daily as a treatment for inflamed tumors, cancers, boils and ulcers. Of course, experienced professional advice should first be obtained.
Commonly called wild indigo or indigo weed, the roots and leaves of this herb have been used medicinally for their alterative, antibiotic, antiseptic, emmenagogue, and emetic properties. Putrid infections, blood poisoning, meningitis, swollen glands (scrofula), and malignant sores have all been treated with baptisia. The active biochemicals contained within baptisia include baptitoxine (baptisine), two glucosides, baptin (a cathartic), and a yellowish resin.
