Asafoetida is routinely used as a carminative and substitute for garlic in many Asian countries. In both India and China it is often favored over garlic, which is looked down upon by Brahmin, Taoist and Buddhist priests probably because of the strong odor it leaves on the breath. Asafoetida has a similarly strong odor and flavor but will not remain on the breath. In Western countries, it is an important ingredient in Worcestershire sauce.
Asafoetida, having warming antispasmodic properties, is useful for hysterical symptoms, hypoglycemia, Candida albicans overgrowth, coldness, coughs and bronchitis. Called "hing" in Sanskrit, it is the primary ingredient in "hinga-shtak," the most famous digestive formula in India. In this form it is taken as a pill or powder, or it is mixed with food to prevent gas, aid digestion and alleviate the mood drop and loss of energy that follow eating certain foods. Thus asafoetida, or hinga-shtak, are effective as carminatives in regulating chi and helping to overcome food allergies.
Commonly called Devil's dung or Gum asafoetida, the gum resin of this herb has been used to treat gas, weak digestion, food sensitivities, hysteria and mood swings, candida albicans overgrowth, hypoglycemia, colds and coughs. Its digestant, carminative, aromatic, antispasmodic, and expectorant properties have a positive effect on the liver, stomach, and digestive tract. Its biochemical components include an essential oil, resin, ferulic acid, glue, secbutyipropenyl disulfide, and farnesiferol.

My review won't do you much good. I bought the Asafaetida for a friend whose mother made her wear an "Asafaetida bag" when she got sick as a child - folk medicine. We joked about it so much I decided to look for some and send it to her for nostalgia sake. I have no idea what the hell it is, but it seemed to be the genuine article. I googled Asafaetida and found you. But I couldn't find an Asafaetida BAG to make the joke complete! No complaints. On time delivery. Good background info on Asafaetida provided by one of your staff.
