It is an ideal herb for meat eaters, as it is nourishing to the liver and kidneys like ginseng, but is a cooling, Yin tonic to balance the Yang effects of the meat.
Lycii is never used for acute fevers and colds because it is said to drive the fever deeper. It is best used for chronic, deficient, low-grade fevers with perspiration.
