Description
Red root, or New Jersea tea, is a bitter, alkaloid-rich root that affects the lymphatic system, liver, and spleen. It has been traditionally prescribed for lymphatic congestion, enlarged spleen or liver, bronchitis, uterine bleeding, hemorrhoids, increasing the platelet count as a result of chemotherapy, and cancer. Various alkaloids, it is believed, are responsible for the lymphatic stimulating, expectorant, antispasmodic, and astringent actions of the herb.
Ceanothus can be used for lymphatic cleansing, enlarged spleen and liver, colds, bronchitis, whooping cough, tonsillitis, diphtheria, sinus conditions, nose bleeds, uterine bleeding, and hemorrhoids. Red root increases platelet counts that may have been lowered as a result of chemotherapy. It also improves digestion and assimilation and firms up stools.
