In 1983, a study concluded that feverfew supplementation prevented migraine attacks. Feverfew works to inhibit the release of two inflammatory substances, serotonin and prostaglandins, both believed to contribute to the onset of migraines. The use of white willow dates back to 400 BC, when the bark was chewed to relieve fevers. The chemical makeup of white willow bark, and the presence of salycilic acid in particular, was the blue-print for the development of our modern day aspirin.
