Propagation: By root division; by cuttings in spring or fall; by seed, very slow germination, perhaps a year; seeds viable even after 3 or 4 years.
Nature of Plant: Spreading; very hardy; intensely fragrant leaves; good for flower border.
Spacing of Mature Plants: 18 inches.
Cultural Requirements: Medium dry, poor, light, sandy soil is best for plants get weedy in fertile soil; prefer part shade; pinch tops back to increase foliage, for continuous bloom during summer and to keep flowers from going to seed; keep weeded.
Uses
Leaf: (Culinary) Tea, soup, sauce, stew, salad, flavoring summer drinks, with Swiss chard, in egg dishes, added to tarragon vinegar; (Medicinal) induces perspiration; (Industrial) in perfumes and toilet water, in Chartreuse, Benedictine and other liqueurs, furniture polish oil, salve.
