SWEET WOODRUFF or WALDMEISTER (Asperula odorata), a small sweet-scented herb of Mediterranean origin, has been used since the early pre-Christian era for flavoring wine. The delicious German Maitrank, or Maybowle, made by steeping sprigs of woodruff in Rhine wine, strawberries and sugar, was a blood purifier in medieval times.
General Herb Information
Sweet Woodruff - Waldmeister (Asperula odorata).
Propagation: By seed, very slow to germinate, usually a year, but might be lessened by planting as soon as ripe; by root division.
Nature of Plant: Most beautiful ground cover for shady spots or under trees; deep green, starry whorls of 8 long, oval leaves on under the central rib; when sun strikes plants, leaves become lighter; tiny white flowers are also stars with four petals; graceful in flower arrangements.
Spacing of Mature Plants: 12 inches.
Cultural Requirements: In loose, moist, well-drained soil in partial shade or shade; plants spread into high mats from underground roots.

Directions
Hot tea brewing method: Bring freshly drawn cold water to a rolling boil. Place 1 tea bag for each cup into the teapot. Pour the boiling water into the pot, cover and let steep for 2-4 minutes. Pour into your cup; add milk and natural sweetener to taste.
Iced tea brewing method: (to make 1 liter/quart): Place 5 tea bags into a teapot or heat resistant pitcher. Pour 1 1/4 cups of freshly boiled water over the tea itself. Steep for 5 minutes. Quarter fill a serving pitcher with cold water. Pour the tea into the serving pitcher straining the tea bags. Add ice and top-up with cold water. Garnish and sweeten to taste.
