Description
Pollen is the yellow powdery stuff on the stamens of flowers; it's the plant's male sex cells. Commission E ascribes medicinal qualities to pollen, collected from what the commission generically terms "various flowering plants." This, please note, isn't necessarily bee pollen (propolis), often sold in health food stores as a near-panacea and said to have been collected by bees from poplar and conifer trees - a hard-to-verify claim. Propolis, a brown, resinous material, wasn't evaluated by the commission.
Potential Health Benefits
Although pollen, as male sex cells, sounds like it would be more exciting for plants than people, Commission E considers it a roborant - a quaint term meaning a strengthening agent or tonic. Pollen, the commission concludes, is useful for reversing "feebleness and loss of appetite."
Scientific Evidence
Commission E doesn't endorse pollen for many of the wide range of uses that herbal enthusiasts claim it's good for. Such uses allegedly include: slowing the aging process, treating anemia, and mitigating colitis. In any case, pollen is highly variable; its composition depends on where and when it's collected. Controlled clinical studies of pollen seem to be scarce, but Germans have long used it to stimulate appetite, and Commission E aligns itself with this empirical evidence.
How to Use the Herb
The average daily dose is 30-40 grams of pollen, taken with water, to stimulate the appetite and act as a pick-me-up.

While Royal Jelly is helpful for a vast array of conditions, I would not suggest that you use it as a means of weight loss. Royal Jelly has been found to be helpful in the following areas: Toning and strengthening skin, relieving weak and tired eyes, relieving and eliminating arthritis and improving memory. Royal jelly also has a yeast inhibiting function, preventing conditions such as thrush and athlete's foot. It is also used to treat muscular dystrophy, MS and Parkinson's disease as well as reduce allergic symptoms and help control cholesterol levels. By eating bee products, we preventively 'inoculate' ourselves against many bacterial and viral infections and maybe even reduce our risk of cancer.
If you are looking to begin a weight loss routine, I would strongly suggest that you first discuss your intentions with your physician. He or she will hold the most knowledge regarding your personal medical history and therefore, will be able to make the most informed decision concering your ultimate health! Some of the weight loss treatments you may wish to consider are Grapefruit Plus Diet, Apple Cider Vinegar, Fat Burning Complex or Metabolism Formula.
