Description
Astragalus is considered a strong immune booster and an energy herb for anyone who may be immuno-compromised. Astragalus restores depleted red blood cell formation in bone marrow, stimulates the body's natural interferon production, helps adrenal function, is a diuretic for edema and inflamed kidneys and helps cancer patients withstand the side effects of chemotherapy. It contains choline, betaine, dimethoxyisoflavone, glucuronic acid, kumatakenin, B-sitosterol, and sucrose 33.

Directions
Stir 1/4 of a teaspoon into a glass of water and consume 3 times daily, with meals.
Understanding the 10:1 Ratio
The directions say to take 1/4 teaspoon of the powder in a glass of water. This corresponds to roughly the same quantity of herb as one would get taking one capsule - that is, about 450 mg. So, the serving sizes are roughly the same. The particular size of gelatin capsule that we use always contains 450 mg, since the capsule cannot contain physically any more than that.
However, we refer to a 10:1 extract (1 capsule or 1/4 teaspoon serving) as being the equivalent of ten servings of the standard herb, and that translates into 4500 mg worth of active compounds. This is why the label mentions 4500 mg, and it refers to the strength of the serving, not the size. This applies to both the capsule or powdered serving. It is NOT the actual contents of the capsule, since a 4500 mg capsule would be about the size of lipstick container!
A 10:1 extract can be described in these terms: in terms of weight, one capsule of extra strength powder or 1/4 teaspoon of extra strength powder each equals a 450 mg serving; in terms of potency, each is the equivalent of 4500 mg per serving of whole herb when considering measured levels of known active compounds.
Cautions
Astragalus is not recommended for use during acute, feverish conditions.
