Bugleweed
Bugleweed does its work by inhibiting the action of thyroid hormones and
the reproductive hormones associated with the menstrual cycle. It also
reduces levels of prolactin, the hormone that triggers breast milk
production.
The herb is a creeping perennial that grows to about
2 feet in height and has a mint-like smell. It was discovered on the banks
of streams in Virginia, but now grows throughout North America. A closely
related plant called Gypsywort is found in Europe. Bugleweed's medicinal
value lies in its fresh or dried above-ground parts collected during the
flowering season.
Directions
Hot tea brewing method: Bring freshly drawn cold water to a rolling boil. Place 1 teaspoon of tea for each cup into the teapot. Pour the boiling water into the pot, cover and let steep for 2-4 minutes. Pour into your cup; add milk and sugar to taste.
Iced tea brewing method: (to make 1 liter/quart): Place 5 teaspoons of tea into a teapot or heat resistant pitcher. Pour 1 1/4 cups of freshly boiled water over the tea itself. Steep for 5 minutes. Quarter fill a serving pitcher with cold water. Pour the tea into the serving pitcher straining the tea. Add ice and top-up with cold water. Garnish and sweeten to taste.
Cautions
Hyperactive thyroid condition may indicate a more serious health imbalance. It is important to consult your healthcare provider if there is any question regarding the nature of this imbalance.
Not to be used during pregnancy or lactation.
Do not use if you are currently on thyroid or hormone medication.
