Description - Research and Analysis

Also called broad-leaved or curly dock, yellow dock provides favorable health benefits for the liver and the colon. The root, specifically, contains anthraquinone glycosides, rumicin, chrysarobin, tannins and oxalates providing support for complaints such as anemia, skin problems, liver congestion. Cholagogic, alterative, mildly laxative, and blood tonic actions have been conformed in laboratory analysis.

Yellow dock can be used to help support chronic skin problems including psoriasis, various eruptions, eczema and acne. It can also be used for symptoms of iron deficiency in the blood. Finally it can be used for most inflammatory liver and gallbladder disorders and various gastrointestinal problems. This plant has similar tonic properties to the Chinese ho shou wu (Polygonum multijlorum), except that it might have a little more active laxative properties. However, in smaller doses, it will only serve to regulate bowel movement.

Yellow dock root can be useful for improving immunity and can be used to help support acute leukemia.

Dosage: For skin problems such as eczema, acne and psoriasis, combine yellow dock and burdock roots with burdock seeds, stifiingia, red clover and sarsaparilla root. Make into a strong decoction simmering one ounce of the combination 20-30 minutes. Take three cups daily.

For anemia combine 6 grams yellow dock root 4 grams each of ho shou wu and tang quai root and 15 grams Chinese astragalus root.

Take in decoction twice daily.
