Description
If you're eating a variety of healthy foods like almonds, avocados, egg yolks, green leafy vegetables, and oils like wheat germ or sunflower oil, you're probably getting adequate levels of vitamin E in your diet. If, however, you need to fill in some of the nutritional gaps with a vitamin E supplement, products from Swiss Herbal or Webber are an excellent choice. Always look for the natural (d-alpha-tocopherol) form of the vitamin as opposed to the synthetic variety (dl-alpha tocopherol) which seems to be prevalent in many multi-vitamins. So, read the labels carefully!
Studies, seem to be in favor of the natural form of the natural form of the vitamin (however, the specific form of the vitamin is undisclosed in much of the published research). In terms of bioavailabilty, potency, and effectiveness, natural forms of vitamin E are superior. Nobel prize winning chemist, Linus Pauling, was a friend and staunch advocate of two Canadian brothers, Drs. Wilfred and Evan Shute. This brother team effectively treated over 30,000 cardiac patients with mega-doses of natural vitamin E - with incredible results. Their research is only now receiving the attention and credibility it deserves. Sadly, when attempts were made to replicate their positive results with vitamin E, much lower doses of the synthetic form were used, and the poor results tainted their original research.
