Soy contains isoflavones that have been shown to naturally regulate and balance the levels of estrogens which, in turn, reduces the symptoms of PMS. Studies focused on vitamin B6 have demonstrated how the vitamin outperformed a placebo at alleviating symptoms such as breast tenderness, bloating, and depression. Chaste berry's actions directly affect the pituitary gland; by ultimately lowering levels of secreted prolactin, women with breast tenderness may benefit from this herb. Chaste berry also seems to exhibit dopamine-like effects on the brain, and has been shown to alleviate some of the symptoms of menopause. In a UK placebo-controlled crossover study from 1998, magnesium oxide supplementation (in the second month) reduced fluid retention, weight gain, swelling, bloating, and breast tenderness in 38 women. Passion flower has been included in this blend for its confirmed sedative effects which can reduce anxiety and help to address any sleep disturbances associated with PMS.
