Description
The bitter-tasting bark of the white willow is a source of salicin (salicoside), salicortine, and tannin making it the herbal equivalent to aspirin. Pharmacological actions that have been confirmed in vitro include: arialgesic, alterative, febrifuge, astringent, antiperiodic and vermifuge. White willow exhibits favorable affects on the liver, the kidneys, and the heart.
Willow bark is the herbal analogue for aspirin and is an easy substitute with fewer side effects. Therefore, it is good for the symptomatic relief of fevers, headaches and sciatic, arthritic, rheumatic and neuralgic aches and pains. For broader action, combine powdered willow bark, rosemary herb, poplar bark, wintergreen, wood betony and licorice in equal parts. Take two capsules every two hours or as needed.
Dosage: One to three teaspoons of the bark soaked in cold water for two to five hours; take one-third cup three times daily. The herb could also be powdered and taken in two capsules three times daily. Because of the strong bitter flavor, which can create stomach disturbance, it is good to combine about one-eighth to one-quarter part licorice root along with a small amount of cinnamon bark to counteract some of these possible undesirable side effects.

Directions
Hot tea brewing method: Bring freshly drawn cold water to a rolling boil. Place 1 tea bag for each cup into the teapot. Pour the boiling water into the teapot. Cover and let steep for 3-7 minutes according to taste (the longer the steeping time the stronger the tea).
Iced tea brewing method (to make 1 liter/quart): Place 6 tea bags into a teapot or heat resistant pitcher. Pour 1 1/4 cups of freshly boiled water over the tea. Steep for 5 minutes. Quarter fill a serving pitcher with cold water. Pour the tea into your serving pitcher straining the bags. Add ice and top-up the pitcher with cold water. Garnish and sweeten to taste. [A rule of thumb when preparing fresh brewed iced tea is to double the strength of hot tea since it will be poured over ice and diluted with cold water].
