Homaccords are preparations which contain one or several active substances in respective potency chords. Usually a low potency is combined with a medium potency and a higher potency. The background of this potency combination is the nearly 100-year-old therapeutic experience that the simultaneous administration of low, medium, and higher potencies causes a reduction of the initial aggravation. As is known, initial aggravations occur particularly often during the administration of higher potencies given individually. Homaccords are available as attenuations for oral administration. This multipotent form - among other applications - is particularly appropriate for treating chronic illnesses.
Belladonna, from the Italian, meaning "beautiful lady," is a perenthai herb containing the alkaloid atropine. The plant puts out purplish, bell-shaped flowers and black berries. Its popular name, deadly nightshade, signals that belladonna can indeed be a poison when used carelessly. Used correctly, it's an effective treatment for a range of maladies.
Potential Health Benefits
Extracts of the root and leaf are used to treat "spasms and colic-like pain in the gastrointestinal tract and bile ducts," according to Commission E. Belladonna extracts are also employed to dilate the pupil of the eye for eye examinations and eye surgery.
Scientific Evidence
Belladonna affects the brain and central nervous system, disrupting the effects of acetylochoJine, a chemical messenger in the nervous system. Pharmacologists have found sedative effects and narcotic qualities in belladonna; it's also antispasmodic. Belladonna is effective as a local anesthetic. Homeopaths have used minute doses of belladonna to treat scarlet fever and thyroid disorders. Additionally, belladonna is an ingredient in prescription drugs such as Donnatal and Laugin.
How to Use the Herb
Carefully, under the supervision of a homeopathic doctor or herbalist.
