Description
C-O Formula Tea consists of an herbal combination specially formulated to treat constipation. This, in turn, leads to health benefits for problems associated with constipation, such as painful bowel movements, hemorrhoids and anal fissures.
Since a diet low in essential fats, such as omega 3 or omega 6, may be a contributing factor to constipation, Black Currant Leaf ()Ribes nigrum) has been included in this blend for it's natural source of omega 6 fatty acids.
Buckthorn Bark (Rhamnus frangula L.) is primarily used for constipation and for conditions that require a softened stool such as hemorrhoids, anal fissures, and after rectal-anal surgery. The bark of a related North American species, Rhamnus purshiana, is used likewise for the same purposes. The bark is taken from the stem and branches in the spring but must be stored for at least a year or, alternatively, heat treated before using to allow anthrones in the fresh bark to oxidize, otherwise preparations will cause stomach upset. Buckthorn Bark is a mild laxative that works by preventing electrolytes and water from being absorbed in the large intestine; the excess liquid softens the stool and promotes bowel contractions. The bark takes about 6 to 8 hours to work after ingestion. Wild chicory (Cichorium intybus), another important herb in C-O Formula, is a powerful hepatic stimulant that is known to increase the secretion of bile. It also effectively promotes digestion.
Rhubarb Root (Rheum palmatum) has a purgative action for use in the treatment of constipation, but also has an astringent effect following this. It therefore has a truly cleansing action upon the gut, removing debris and then astringing with antiseptic properties as well.
Bittersweet (Celastrus scandens), Stinging Nettle (Urtica dioica), and Linden leaf (Tilia cordata ) are also included in C-O Formula due to their known properties of alleviating constipation and a sluggish colon. C-O Formula is a safe and natural herbal tea formula that can be used, effectively, to treat ocasional constipation.

Directions
Fresh drawn, boiling water contains the most oxygen, thereby giving the fullest taste to tea. Water that has been boiling for some time looses the oxygen and thereby the best taste.
Allow full expansion during the infusion and easy removal after the time for steeping has elapsed.
Draw into a tea pot or kettle the best fresh water that you have available.
Warm the teapot and cups while the water is boiling.
Avoid Buckthorn if you have an intestinal obstruction, an acute inflammatory intestinal disorder such as Crohn's Disease, ulcerative colitis, appendicitis, or any abdominal pain of unknown origin.
Not for use by children under 12.
Buckthorn can cause abdominal pain or discomfort. If it does, reduce the dosage.
Do not take Buckthorn for more than 1 to 2 weeks without consulting a doctor. Long-term use can lead to potassium deficiency, intestinal dysfunction, heart problems, kidney disease, swelling, and bone problems.
Avoid combining Buckthorn with other medications that flush water and potassium from the body, including diuretics such as Diuril and Lasix, steroid drugs such as prednisone, and licorice root.
Potassium plays an important role in regulating the heart, so depleting it through long-term use of laxatives can affect the action of certain heart medications. There could be an increase in the effect of drugs such as digitalis and digoxin (Lanoxin). Medications taken to steady the heartbeat could also be affected.
Consult with your doctor before using Buckthorn while pregnant or breastfeeding.
