| | Description
This formula provides ZINC in the form of zinc gluconate which has been used in clinical studies showing the effectiveness of zinc lozenges in reducing the severity and duration of the common cold. Research suggests that this form is absorbed more effectively sublingually than other forms such as oxides, carbonates and phosphates. Research has shown that zinc lozenges may help to offset the symptoms of the cold and flu.
Zinc is required for many functions in the body, including growth, taste and smell, nucleic acid synthesis, keratin metabolism, sexual development and function in both genders, bone and joint metabolism, wound healing, brain development, nerve function and behavior, and lipid and carbohydrate metabolism. Zinc has demonstrated anti-stress functions, and has a role to play in immune functions. Large amounts of Zinc are lost in sweat, and must be replaced.
Ester C is a special pH neutral vitamin C that also supplies the naturally occurring byproducts of vitamin C metabolism. Research suggests that Ester C is absorbed up to 400% better than straight ascorbic acid and 200% better than regular calcium ascorbate. Vitamin C has a role to play in the formation of bones, skin and teeth. It also has an important role to play in immunity. Nobel Prize winner, the late Dr. Linus Pauling, has suggested that increased levels of vitamin C may help to reduce the symptoms of the cold and flu.
Echinacea is one of the best researched plants for helping the body during infections. It is thought to be effective against both bacterial and viral attacks, though it may be much more effective against viruses. It seems to prevent infection and repair tissue damaged by infection, partially through inhibiting the activity of the enzyme hyaluronidase. Though echinacea is often referred to as a "natural antibiotic" its primary action is not antibiotic, but probiotic. It stimulates the body's natural defense mechanisms in a variety of ways. | |
