Description
Cat's Claw Bark, or "Una de Gato", has anti-viral, anti-tumor and anti-inflammatory properties. It cleanses the intestinal tract and boosts the immune system by enhancing the action of white blood cells. Cat's claw is also a powerful antioxidant and has been used to treat cancer, genital herpes, shingles, AIDS, arthritis, ulcers, urinary problems, bowel and intestinal disorders. This herb contains isopteropodine, oxindole alkaloids, polyphenols, triterpenes, and plant steroids (beta-sitosterol, stigmasterol and campesterol).
Devil's Claw (Harpagophytum procumbens) is a rugged plant belonging to the family of the pedaliaceae. It appears all over Southern Africa, especially in Transvaal, Oranje free State & S.W. Africa. After the first rain young shoots come up out the roots, which crawling along the ground, reach a length of about 1.5 meters. On the shoulders of its leaves sit beaming red blossoms. The plant derives its name from the looks of its fruits with their wooden appearance and its hook-like outgrowth. The natives of South Africa have used this root for centuries in their folk medicine. Historical uses include treatment of arthritis, gout, rheumatism, inflammation, indigestion, elevated blood sugar, liver, gallbladder and kidney ailments.
