Description
An Elephant cares for its young, greets its friends, and mourns their passing. They feel pain, grief, joy and love, and defend their territory against invaders. They generate life by scattering seeds; in fact, some tree seeds will not germinate unless they have passed through an Elephant's system. Elephants have lived for 45 million years and there have been more than 600 species on Earth. Today, only two species remain: the African and Asian Elephants. Asian Elephants are smaller than African Elephants, have smaller ears, a higher forehead with two large bumps, and their backs bend up in the middle. Less than 600,000 African Elephants and only about 35,000 Asian Elephants survive today of which one third are domestic. It is estimated that as many as 300 are slaughtered every day to supply the world's ivory trade. At this rate, the Elephant will become completely extinct by the year 2000.

The essence of the current American rule on Traditional Uses is, as stated by FTC, "Claims based on historical or traditional use should be substantiated by confirming scientific evidence, or should be presented in such a way that consumers understand that the sole basis for the claim is a history of use of the product for a particular purpose."
