Description
The population of the Black Rhino has been devastated more severely than perhaps that of any other animal. Not only are Rhinos senselessly and brutally killed for their horns which are considered to be a status symbol and mistakenly believed to have medicinal value, but also, man's destruction of their habitat has confined the Rhino to an area much too small for an animal of its size. Since 1970, more than 96% of the Rhino population has been eliminated; only 500 Black Rhinos populate Zimbabwe today. The Black Rhino is distinguished by a hooked or prehensile upper lip, which helps in grasping its food. Although they have a good sense of smell, they are very near sighted and aggressive when disturbed. In fact, most believe the main reason a Black Rhino has a reputation of unprovoked aggression is that it often assumes it's an intruder approaching and overcompensates for its poor eyesight. One of the Rhino's most favorite thing to do is wallow in mud. Even though they are solitary in life, they are wonderful mothers, with offspring sometimes remaining with mom until they are as large as she is.

The essence of the current American rule on Traditional Uses is, as stated by FTC, "Claims based on historical or traditional use should be substantiated by confirming scientific evidence, or should be presented in such a way that consumers understand that the sole basis for the claim is a history of use of the product for a particular purpose."
