Thanks | | | | | | | | ZooScape Moderator - June 19, 2006, 14:03 | #10001468 | | | | | | | | This article features two herbs recommended by an MS sufferer who uses them in tea form for their muscle relaxant and anti-spasmodic properties. Although this information is anecdotal in nature, you may have some success with them, too.
As far as animal and in vitro studies focusing on MS, Alpha Lipoic Acid may be helpful as animal studies have revealed that it can inhibit MMP-9 activity and interfere with T-cell migration into the central nervous system. Lab studies have shown that curcumin blocks the progression of MS, while preliminary evidence suggests that fish oils, ginkgo, flavonoids, and vitamin D may all be of some benefit for those with MS.
More information is increasingly becoming available concerning the natural treatment of MS, but clinical trials are scarce and there still needs to be further studies to accurately determine not only the effectiveness of these substances, but how they interact with current prescription drugs for MS. Preliminary research is promising and there is every reason to be optimistic. You may wish to investigate some of the supplements I listed, and discuss some of the research studies with your healthcare provider; these could, perhaps, be integrated into your current treatment program. | | | | | | | | | | | Anonymous - April 22, 2006, 21:32 | #10000108 | | | | | | | | I have a friend who is almost four months pregnant and asked about taking swedish bitters. Isn't it harmful to do this? | | | | | | | | ZooScape Moderator - April 24, 2006, 18:04 | #10000146 | | | | | | | | The consensis seems to be that Swedish Bitters should be avoided during pregnancy and nursing. Sites such as Americanpregnancy.org provide lists of herbal uterine stimulants that should be avoided by pregnant women. Herbs labelled "anthraquinone" or "emmenogogue" or "uterine stimulant", like senna in the Swedish Bitters formula, should be avoided during pregnancy. Herbs such as these may effect the smooth muslce of the uterus to the point of causing miscarriages. | | | | | | | | | | | Joey Karen - April 22, 2006, 16:23 | #10000105 | | | | | | | | Does Sweedish Bitters cure bowel cancer? | | | | | | | | ZooScape Moderator - April 24, 2006, 15:51 | #10001276 | | | | | | | | Bowel cancer, or any cancer for that matter, is very complex. There are typically too many variables - dietary, heriditary, environmental, psycho/spiritual - that may all play an infulential role in the disease. It is safe to say that no supplement, or blended tonic like Swedish Bitters, can single-handedly cure all bowel cancer in all permutations and stages. It is important for people to begin to view supplements more as part of a preventative health regime, and not so much as a last-ditch effort to cure a disease after one feels that conventional Western medicine has failed them.
Nevertheless, herbal tonics such as Swedish Bitters and Essiac have been attributed to many stories of recovery and success. Each contains many herbs widely known for their cleansing, detoxifying, and hepato-protective properties - properties useful for treating cancer. Other herbs like curcumin, graviola, cat's claw, green tea, noni, reishi mushroom, milk thistle, maitake mushroom, have all exhibited anti-tumor activity of various kinds in laboratory experiments. It is important to remember that although an herb may kill cancer cells in vitro, one cannot confidently say that that same supplement will have similar success in the context of a living, breathing human being. It is, however, very promising and important scientific work, and many of the herbs mentioned are deserving of more in-depth clinical study. | | | | | | |

Use for much more than a laxative
Swedish Bitters can be used for a lot of things. I've put it on swollen knees, headaches, sore throats, it stops dizziness,
it is great. Research this and look for a book by Maria Treban. It is something everyone needs in their med cabinet.
