The scent of grapefruit oil is clean, fresh, bitter, and citrusy. This oil is classified as having a top-note scent with an odor intensity of about two out of five. Blending companions include citrus, lavender, geranium, neroli, jasmine, and carrot seed. For physical conditions, grapefruit oil is useful for oily skin problems, cellulite, lymphatic drainage, depression, and fatigue. Emotionally, this oil is uplifting and it is good for alleviating performance anxiety, self-critcism, guilt, anger, and frustration. Oils extracted by cold expression have a superior fragrance, but those produced by distillation have fewer of the photosensitizing coumarins, making them safer for use with sun exposure.

Description and Distribution
A cultivated tree attaining a height of 35 feet (10 m) with glossy leaves and large yellow fruits. This hybrid cultivar is thought to be a cross between C. grandis and C. sinensis. All citrus trees are native to tropical Asia, but are extensively cultivated throughout the world. Most of the oil is produced in California.
Extraction Method
Cold expression of the fresh peel of the fruit. A lower grade oil is obtained by steam distillation of the peel and fruit pulp.
Nature of the Oil
A pale yellow or greenish liquid with afresh, sweet and citrus fragrance. The odour effect is uplifting and antidepressant.

Directions
