| | Description
Cartilage is primarily composed of protein, calcium, collagen and a familyof complex carbohydrates called glycosaminoglycans (also called mucopolysaccharides, glycoproteins and chondroitin sulfates). By supplementing the diet with shark cartilage, we reintroduce concentrationsof glycosaminoglycans and an important macroprotein. As we age, researchers have found that these substances can be abnormally or incompletely formed. Adding cartilage to our diets increases levels of complete glycosaminoglycans. These substances find their way to the synovial membranes of our joints. Over the years, much of the natural cushion of cartilage in our joints begins to wear away. By supplementing the diet with shark cartilage, we reintroduce the cartilage building blocks which can help protect joints against further loss. Swiss Herbal's South American Pacific Shark Cartilage is non-standardized with a slight odour. | |

The essence of the current American rule on Traditional Uses is, as stated by FTC, "Claims based on historical or traditional use should be substantiated by confirming scientific evidence, or should be presented in such a way that consumers understand that the sole basis for the claim is a history of use of the product for a particular purpose."
