The angustifolia variety is more widely used in Europe; although, the North American purpurea variety was widely used by early native peoples. Both varieties seem to be equally effective. This herb contains betaine, copper, echinacen, echinacin B, echinacoside, echinolone, enzymes, arabinose, fructose, fatty acids, galactose, glucose, inulin, iron, pentadecadiene, polysaccharides, polyacetylene, potassium, protein, rhamnose, resin, sucrose, sulfur, tannins, xylose, vitamins A, C and E.
