Fatty acids are the nutritional components found in dietary fats and oils. The most nutritious and beneficial fatty acids are the Omega-3,-6 and -9 acids. They include the essential fatty acids (EFA) that cannot be synthesized by the body and the necessary unsaturated fatty acids (UFA) that are produced by the body in limited quantities. EFA and UFA improve metabolism and selective membrane permeability, reduce triglyceride and cholesterol levels, inhibit inflammatory response and support immune and mental function. A proper balance of essential fatty acids in the diet is important for the maintenance of good health. It is believed that North American's consume only 20% of the essential oils that are required, while consuming excessive amounts of harmful saturated fats. Note: See Salmon Oil, Flax Oil, Pumpkin Oil and Borage Oil supplements for details about the specialized health benefits of these essential fatty acid products.

Yes. The oils in this blend, and lecithin is included, need to be kept refrigerated after they are opened or they will go rancid. Vegetable oils like flax and sunflower can be kept refrigerated for anywhere from four to eight weeks after which time they can develop a strong oil paint odour or leave an odd, scratchy sensation in your throat. If this the case, discard the oil and replace it with a fresh batch.
