Nature of Plants: A handsome plant for back of the flower border; rises to 6 or 7 feet with beautiful sprays of white flowers some 18 inches long; flower stalk is so slender and rises so far above the mass of large, deeply cut foliage that from a distance the spray seems to be waving by itself in mid-air; has an unpleasant odor, said to drive away bedbugs, hence, the name Bugbane.
Spacing of Mature Plants: rich, moist soil; does not mature until the third or fourth year; resents being moved; grows in sun or shade.
Uses
Root: (Medicinal) Sedative, expectorant, produces perspiration, in rheumatism, fevers, asthma, dropsy, St. Vitus' Dance.
