Gotu Kola typically has a sedative effect. It is very effective for me in mood, relaxation and concentration - IF there are enough standarized, active ingrediencts in it.
The reviewer who wound up in the ER after taking a & quot;supplement containing gotu cola in order to loose some weight& quot; should also review the rest of the supplement's label. Gotu is often confused w/ the caffeine-containing Kola(or Cola)Nut. Both of these were often included in energy/diet formulas containing ephedera. Ephedera, (esp. in excess and/or w/ caffeine), could give the symptoms she described.
