Saw Palmetto is a plant favorably affecting Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy (BPH). The extract comes from the berry of the plant and exerts some of the activity from the anti androgenic properties. The beneficial effects include increased urinary flow, reduced residual urine, increased ease in commencing micturition and decreased frequency of urination. It is believed that the accumulation of testosterone in the prostate contributes to an enlarged prostate or Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy (BPH). In the prostate, testosterone is converted to dihydrotesterone (DHT), a potent hormone that stimulates the prostate and causes the cells to multiply eventually causing the prostate to enlarge.
Pumpkin Seed Oil is rich in zinc, a mineral higher in the prostate than anywhere else and has been shown to be effective in reducing the size and symptoms of an enlarged prostate by inhibiting the activity of the enzyme that converts testosterone to DHT, the hormone that causes over production of prostate cells.
