| | Description
Isoflavones are known for their ability to reduce or eliminate menopausal hot flashes.
Isoflavones belong to a class of plant chemicals that have a weak estrogenic effect and are therefore referred to as phytoestrogens. Isoflavones are found almost exclusively in legumes (beans) and soybeans are the richest and most plentiful supply. Two soy isoflavones have profound importance, genistein and daidzein. Isoflavones present an anti-cancer potential because they compete with ovarian estrogens for the cellular receptors, the actual sites or doorways where estrogen gains cellular entry.
In the premenopasual woman, isoflavones protect against the estrogen-related cancers by blocking exaggerated estrogen cellular entry, a condition that characterizes a large segment of premenopausal Western world women. The more estrogen a cell is exposed to, the greater the risk of cancer.
On the other hand, in postmenopausal woman, isoflavones provide a desirable phytoestrogenic action, compensating for a drop in ovarian estrogen, by helping to overcome hot flashes, perhaps providing some protection against osteoporosis, and furthering an anti-cancer protection, especially in those women with high body fat, who are known to produce significantly higher estrogen levels, via their fat cells.

I am taking aterax for neurodermatitis and would like to know if the supplement will react with it in any way. I would also like to know if over the counter headache tablets can be taken while taking the supplement. | | | | | | | | ZooScape Moderator - June 12, 2006, 15:04 | #10000798 | | | | | | | | Atarax, commonly referred to as Hydroxyzine, is also known by the brand names Atazine, Dovaril, Hypam, Vistacot, Vistaril and Vistawin. Hydroxyzine is used to treat itching due to hives, eczema, and allergic reactions, as well as to treat anxiety and tension. It is in a class of drugs known as antihistamines. At the time of writing there are no known interactions between this prescription medication and any herbal remedy.
With regards to taking an over the counter headache tablet with the menopause supplement you have purchased, I cannot find any information to suggest there would be a negative interaction. If you would like a more specific response, I would be able to look into this more if you could provide me with the name of the headache tablet you are considering taking. When starting any herbal remedy, you should consult with your physician prior to doing so as he or she will have the most knowledge regarding your personal medical history and will be able to make the best decision regarding your health.
Also, if you are looking for an alternate herbal product that will support you throughout menopause, may I suggest Menopause Formula by TerraVita. This is a blend of herbal products that is specifically designed to help combat and alleviate the symptoms associated with this time in a woman's life. | | | | | | | | | | | b - May 27, 2006, 05:22 | #10000630 | | | | | | | | Hello,i'd like to ask how much the course is every day.thank you. | | | | | | | | ZooScape Moderator - June 13, 2006, 13:09 | #10000816 | | | | | | | | The suggested daily dosage is 2-3 capsules, preferably with meals, or as directed by a physician.
Isoflavones are phytoestrogens that help reduce or eliminate menopausal hot flashes. In pre-menopausal women, isoflavones protect against estrogen related cancers by blocking exaggerated estrogen cellular entry. The isoflavones in soy, primarily genistein and daidzein, have been well researched by scientists for their antioxidant and phytoestrogenic properties. Saponins enhance immune function and bind to cholesterol to limit its absorption in the intestine. Phytosterols and other components of soy have been reported to lower cholesterol levels. The soy isoflavone genistein has been reported to inhibit angiogenesis, the growth of new blood vessels that, when abnormal, can contribute to the development of cancer. Soy isoflavones have also been shown to inhibit 5 alpha-reductase, the enzyme that activates testosterone in the prostate gland and other tissues. 5 Alpha-reductase inhibition represents a potentially effective therapeutic approach to benign prostate enlargement and male pattern baldness. Isoflavones may reduce the risk of hormone-dependent cancers, such as breast and prostate cancer, as well as other cancers. One study of soy research found that 65% of 26 animal-based cancer studies showed a protective effect of soy or soy isoflavones.
