Description
Dong Quai is used to treat dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea, hot flashes, uterine cramps, and migraine headaches.
Dong Quai is the common name for Angelica sinensis, a Chinese herb grown for several thousand years for medicinal purposes and used to treat a wide variety of `female complaints'. It has often been referred to as the `female ginseng'.
Dong Quai, contrary to common understanding, does not contain phytoestrogens or provide a specific estrogenic effect. Dong Quai provides an adaptogenic effect, meaning that it assists the body in adapting to the stresses of life, and seems particularly effective at female stress.
It provides uterine muscle contraction or relaxation, enhances metabolism, improves liver function, which improves control over hormone balance, and has a mild sedative effect. Dong Quai provides some degree of reduced blood pressure.
Dong Quai may help women ease into menopause, but Black Cohosh might be a better choice, since it is specifically associated with improved vaginal physiology.

Directions
Dosage recommendations are 1 to 2 Vegicaps, two or three times per day, with meals, or as directed by a physician
Take during the month as required.

Ingredients
Each vegicap contains:
- Dong Quai 4:1 Extract (Angelica sinensis) - 125 mg
- Dong Quai Powder (Angelica sinensis) - 250 mg
In a Vegicap with rice protein.

Cautions
Caution should be exercised with sun exposure when using Dong Quai since it contains plant chemicals that can cause photosensitivity to the sun, causing a rash or sunburn that might otherwise not be expected.
Excessive dosing may interfere with anti-coagulant therapy.
Dong Quai is generally considered to be very safe presenting no toxicity when used according to traditional use for female related problems.
It should not be used during pregnancy, since it can cause uterine contractions, nor while nursing.
Keep out of reach of children.
