The leaves and blossoms of tansy have a limited use. Its primary current use is as a vermifuge and anthelmintic, that is, as an aid in killing and expelling intestinal parasites such as roundworms or tapeworms.
Tansy was at one time used as an emmenagogue to help regulate the female reproductive system and to stimulate the menstrual flow. However, it is believed to have been a cause of miscarriage in some cases and therefore should be avoided in pregnancy.
