Internally, cleavers is useful in problems of the urinary tract, where it acts as a diuretic and an anti-inflammatory. It can be used as a tea in bladder infections and for painful urination. Cleavers has also been used for relief of water retention, such as premenstrual edema. It can be helpful in persons with a tendency to form kidney stones or gravel and, in this case, is best as a fresh-plant tincture, or as a juice, if a juicer is available.
Cleavers is also alterative and tonic, toning the body generally and altering metabolism toward a healthful balance. It has been used in chronic skin conditions, such as psoriasis, where it aids in elimination of toxins from the body. As an alterative, cleavers works on the lymphatic system, and it can be a useful adjunct in therapies for swollen lymph glands and any associated problems, such as tonsillitis or mononucleosis.
Externally, cleavers can be used as a wash or salve for burns or wounds.

we used to pick cleavers when I was young and all i remember is that they stuck to everything - my grandfather used to take me and my brother alan to pick them on the farm in the early summer - my grandpa drank cleavers juice often - i don't know why he drank the juice - but i remember these things were taller than we were and we were always picking them - i never see cleavers out in the wild any more - now i buy cleavers herb for myself for urination trouble i have.
